Air Quality Avengers
Dairy Cows are Fueling Heavy Duty Trucks and Cleaner Air
More than 120 dairy farms are doing their part to improve the air quality challenges in the San Joaquin Valley, by capturing methane and creating clean, renewable energy and transportation fuels. Dairy digesters are increasingly capturing methane for use as carbon-negative transportation fuel in heavy-duty trucks, displacing diesel use. Renewable natural gas provides air quality benefits for disadvantaged communities, and cleaner air for local residents today.
Near-zero emission vehicles reduce NOx emissions by at least 90% and diesel particulate matter by 100%.
RNG trucks allow farms and food producers to transport products to market, while transitioning away from diesel engines more quickly. The fact is that zero emission heavy-duty trucks are not widely available, not widely serviceable, cost prohibitive, and not easily adaptable to all freight movement needs. In addition, wide scale deployment of zero emission heavy-duty trucks will require a staggering supply of electricity and infrastructure upgrades that our current electrical grid is not prepared to support.
To the rescue! Near-zero emission technology like RNG is readily available today. RNG trucks are more affordable with the necessary fueling infrastructure (more than 600 fueling stations in California), while being a cleaner alternative to diesel.
